Lanzhou University's second "Vertical and Horizontal Cup" strategy simulation challenge successfully ended

On the afternoon of May 28, the second "Vertical and Horizontal Cup" Strategic Simulation Challenge of Lanzhou University, sponsored by the School of Politics and International Relations of Lanzhou University and co-organized by the Qiyun Association of International Relations of Lanzhou University, came to a successful conclusion. More than 100 students participated in the simulation, and personally experienced the manoeuverability of various international actors during the Great Depression one hundred years ago. The competition featured seven countries (United States, United Kingdom, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Soviet Union), seven multinational companies (JP Morgan, Swift, Atlantic & Pacific Tea, Ford Motor, Wigg Industries, Gaslight & Coke, Mitsui) and seven independent newspapers (The New York Times, The Times, Le Figaro, Frankfurter Zeitung, La Volksario Italia) Asahi Shimbun, Pravda), involving a total of nearly 150 delegates. Participants actively carry out various diplomatic activities, carefully analyze the specific situation of their own countries and companies, learn various knowledge of currency, finance, trade, intelligence and diplomacy from scratch, and make political, economic, trade and diplomatic decisions based on this, to maximize their own interests in the international game.

Through this activity, the participants had a deep understanding of the formulation, operation and implementation of national and multinational company strategies, opened the "black box" of national decision-makers, deeply experienced the international political and economic games in simulated historical situations, and greatly expanded the comprehensive abilities of the participants in document writing, dialectical thinking, diplomatic negotiation and public expression. I have a deeper understanding and understanding of the current world political and economic situation.

At 8:45 am on May 27, 2022, the opening ceremony of the second "Vertical and Horizontal Cup" Strategic Simulation Challenge of Lanzhou University was held in Qinling Hall B109, Yuzhong Campus of Lanzhou University, which kicked off the two-day competition. A total of 147 students from Lanzhou University and Northwest University for Nationalities participated in the competition, and 27 students participated in the competition as members of the rehearsal team and the competition officials. Among them, 33 students from our college participated in the competition, and 17 students participated as members of the rehearsal team and the competition officials.

Present at the opening ceremony of the conference are Mr. Liang Zhenpeng from our college and Ms. Jiang Fulong from the Chinese Ethnic Community College of Northwest University for Nationalities. At the opening ceremony, the participants first enjoyed the blessing video recorded by the previous contestants, and displayed the signature map of last year, leading everyone to review the grand events of the past.

Subsequently, the Secretary-General and general secretary of the competition, Guan Heng, a 2020 international politics undergraduate of our college, delivered a speech. He introduced the theme of the competition, "The Great Depression of 1929," and recalled the "twilight of prosperity" that was about to happen. He hoped that all the participants in this competition can exert their wisdom and action power, replay this period of profound change in the course of human history, and find a new road different from history. After the opening ceremony, the contestants enjoyed a historical video themed on the "Great Depression of 1929", which brought the contestants back to the era 100 years ago with black and white influences and music.

Finally, the host of the opening ceremony, Chen Zimo, a 2021 undergraduate majoring in international politics, announced the official start of the competition.
