On May 13, the 4th online academic conference of the "Cui Ying Cup" Graduate Forum on Eurasian Studies, sponsored by the Institute of Central Asian Studies of Lanzhou University and the School of Politics and International Relations of Lanzhou University, and hosted by the editorial Department of Central Asian Studies, was successfully held. More than 70 doctoral and master's students from Peking University, Nanjing University, Lanzhou University, University of Macao, Xi 'an International Studies University, Shanghai International Studies University, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences and other universities and research institutions at home and abroad participated in the online academic conference. At the beginning of the opening ceremony, Professor Chen Xiaoding, Deputy Dean of the School of Politics and International Relations of Lanzhou University and director of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization Research Center of Lanzhou University, delivered a speech on the fourth "Cui-Ying Cup" Graduate Forum on Eurasian Studies. He thought that the topic of the winning essay of the forum was innovative and covered a wide range of topics, which highlighted the students' high enthusiasm for academic research. He warmly welcomed and sincerely thanked the students who actively participated in the forum, and read out the list of winners of the forum. Subsequently, Mr. Wei Jinshen from the Secretariat of the Forum explained in detail the solicitation, evaluation and awards of the fourth "Cuiying Cup" Forum.
After the opening ceremony, the forum was divided into two sub-forums, "Regional situation and diplomatic strategy" and "International Relations and regional cooperation". In the sub-forum of "Regional Situation and Diplomatic Strategy", Li Fangling, Yang Meng, Wang Zihan, Zhang Sheng, Mieko Yamakuan, Lv Youbiao, Xie Cheng, Ma Guibiao, An Kaixin, Sun Zhen and other students respectively gave "selective guidance: Study on Kazakhstan's participation in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization ", "Risk Seeking, Window of Opportunity and Russia's 'Special Military Operation' against Ukraine", "Threat Perception, Cost Expectation and CSTO's selective intervention in regional crises", "Historical Constraints and Realistic Challenges in the post-Soviet Space" : The Dynamic Development of Central Asian Security Situation from the Perspective of Regional Security Complex ", "Structural Characteristics and Influencing Factors of Women's Political Participation in Contemporary Kyrgyzstan", "Between Emotion and Reason" : "Evolution Logic of Color Revolution", "Central Asian Integration and Turkmenistan's Strategic Adjustment", "The Belt and Road" encountered by European and American powers economic Cold War thinking challenges and response research ", "The adjustment of Kazakhstan's foreign policy since 2022 and its prospects", "Between Power and Balance: Kazakhstan's hedging strategy" were presented. Associate Professor Sun Xiuwen from the Institute of Central Asian Studies and the School of Politics and International Relations of Lanzhou University, Associate Professor Ma Bin from the Institute of International Studies of Fudan University, and Dr. Jin Xiaozhe from the Institute of Central Asian Studies and the School of Politics and International Relations of Lanzhou University made detailed comments on the students' papers.
In the sub-forum on "International Relations and Regional Cooperation", Qu Jiarong, Wei Jinbo, Wei Qianqian, Cao Xinru, Wang Yaozheng, Niu Jialu, Su Liya Abdu Aini, Liu Yu, Yu Mengjie, Liu Ruofeng and other students discussed "Identity and Flight: State Construction from the Perspective of Identity Politics - The Case of Ukraine, Belarus and Moldova", "The Battle of Symbols" : Symbolic Dimension in the Interaction between Great Powers and Central Asian States ", "Tribal Politics, patronage Networks and Path Dependence on Political Reform in Kazakhstan", "A Review of the Geopolitical Doctrine of Turkish Eurasianism", "How the Failure of Violent social Movements can promote national Stability: A Case Study of the 'January Incident' in Kazakhstan", "Russia's Regional Integration Policy: Influencing Factors, Characteristics and Effects ", "A Study on the Competitiveness and Complementarity of Commodity Trade between China and Turkmenistan", "Kazakhstan's Middle Power Diplomacy from the Perspective of Role Theory in International Relations", "Central Asian Regional Integration under the Construction of Turkic Identity: A Study Based on the Organization of Turkic States", "From Mutual Trust to Collective Identity" : An Analysis of the path of building a Security Community of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) was presented. Gu Wei, associate researcher at the Institute of International Relations of the Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences, and Wei Jinshen, Associate Professor at the Institute of Central Asian Studies and the School of Politics and International Relations of Lanzhou University, commented on the students' papers in detail.
In the closing ceremony, Mr. Wei Jinshen, the secretariat of the Forum, expressed his heartfelt thanks to the students who participated in the 4th "Cuiying Cup" Eurasian Studies Graduate Forum, and hoped that the students could enhance their knowledge and promote academic exchanges through participating in the forum.
It is reported that in order to promote academic exchanges between domestic graduate students engaged in Eurasian studies, encourage young people to engage in Eurasian studies and reserve talents for domestic Eurasian studies, Lanzhou University's "English Cup" Eurasian Studies Graduate Forum plans to be held once a year since 2020. It is expected that the 5th Eurasian Graduate Forum of the "Cui Ying Cup" in 2024 will be launched in the near future, in order to provide more time for students to write their papers.
